Max Hamlet opened his eyes on the 19th of January under the sign of Capricorn, in Gallipoli, an island on the Ioian Sea, town belonging to the Province of Lecce. At present he both lives and works in Linate (Milan). In 1965 he abandoned school due to economic difficulties. He then followed the evening classes at the Scuola d'Arte Castello Sforzesco in Milan, later attending the atelier of Engraving Arts under the guidance of Professor Pasquale D'Orlando. His first one-man exhibition was held in 1972 at the Galleria Schettini in Milan. On this occasion he made his debut with a series of works entitled "The Metamorphoses", men and woman depicted by way of a tormented deformation of oneiric-surreal stamp. In 1984 he enrolled in the photography courses held at the ISAD Institute with Luciana Mulas and, later, at the Circolo Filologico Milanese (photography section) under the guidance of Professor Virgilio Carnisio. At present he is exclusively concerned with painting, stimulated by various exponents of historical Surrealism of contemporary art with whom he finds a common ground for research with the movement's pioneers: René Magritte, Max Ernst, Alberto Savinio, Salvador Dalì, Paul Delvaux, ect. He has held numerous exhibitions and won awards both in Italy and internationally. His works are to be found in museums, galleries, public and private collections in Europe and United States. |
